The Wall Street Journal gives free WiFi in NY and SF. Why?

This may be a brilliant stroke by a leading newspaper to recover some of the vast space it has lost to internet publishing. When public users (non-subscribers and subscribers alike) log in, the WSJ will have potential new customers, eyeballs for ads and will collect useful information on its subscribes.
I hope this practice spreads--I'm tired of going to places that serve bad coffee:)
